Ph.D Programme in Genomics
Admission to Ph.D programme in Genomics is offered in the current year 2013
The School of Biological Sciences has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, excellent computer lab, Wi-Fi network connection, modern library facility with international journals
The high throughput instrumentation facilities of the school include Automated DNA sequencer, Real-Time PCR machine, Robotic Liquid Handling systems, Flow Cytometer, Microarray, High Content Screening, Next Generation Sequencer, LC-MS etc
Genomics is an important discipline in Biological, Biomedical, Industrial and Agricultural sciences and provides the global information on genetic factors and the genomic processes which in turn are related to the phenotype of organisms
Genomics also involves a series of unbiased assays and approaches to understand the complexity and diversity of genomes
Genomic approaches provide solutions in biomedical research by creating possibilities to new therapies for genetic and pathogen borne diseases
Because of its immediate and considerable impact on global health, there is a demand for highly qualified and trained manpower in the field of genomics
Hence, a Ph.D Programme in Genomics has been initiated in School of Biological Sciences, MaduraiKamaraj University with the support of Dept of Biotechnology, New Delhi through the Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advanced Research and Education (DBT-MKU-IPLS)
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates who have completed their 2 year masters degree in any branch of Life Sciences (Botany, Zoology, Genomics, Microbial Gene Technology, Biochemical Technology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Genetics or equivalent), Medicine, Veterinary and Agriculture from any recognized Indian or Foreign University, with 1st class or equivalent are eligible to apply for the Ph.D Programme in Genomics
Students with M.Tech degrees in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics are also eligible
Selection Procedure: Students with high academic credentials in masters degree will be selected through a national level entrance test conducted at MKU on 08th June, 2013
The pattern of the entrance test is available on website www.mkuniversity.org, www.dbtiplsmku.org
The short listed candidates will be called for an interview/seminar/discussion held at Madurai Kamaraj University
A maximum of 15 students will be admitted to the Ph.D programme
Candidates those who have qualified NET (JRF) examinations will be given preference
Fellowship: The fellowship for the students admitted to Ph.D will be Rs 12,000/- p.m. plus HRA plus MA for the initial two years and Rs 14,000/- p.m. plus HRA plus MA for the third year

Filled in application has to reach the Coordinator DBT-MKU-IPLS Programme, School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai on or before 24th May, 2013
